abrother - Jonsson and his stupid idea on BM 42567
I believe that Carl Jonsson is misusing BM 42567. This text is bringing out the 36th year and Darius and the accession year of Xerxes. Jonsson is indicating that this prove the they were not co-ruling together.
Yet, Jonsson is wrong. In Furuli Chronology book Vol 1. on pages 162 and 163, has some good points on this and the tablets relates to it.
But I will go seperate on this this. Darius is believed to die now in late November or December of his 36th year. Certian texts indicate this, BM 71941 has 10/lX/36 and BM 72574 has 10+x/IX/36 so this would indicate that he died after these dates. But don't forget that anyone ruled in his accession year, then the months of his accession year cannot be before the the month of the kings death. So, if Darius died in November or December (11th or 12th month) of that year, then Xerxes accession year cannot be before these months.
Yet according to BM 75571, it has Xerxes ruling in his accession year 21/ll/00. In another words, he was ruling in February of that year. This text indicates that Darius and Xerxes were co-regents for some time as Furuli briongs out in his Chronlogy book Vol. 1, p. 162, par. 2. More information on this in E.E. Herzfeld " A new Inscriptions of Xerxes from Persepolis.
